My journey in life began in Havana, Cuba in 1966. Just 5 short years later, my family and I made our way to Miami, Florida in 1971. I don't recall much of my first five years, especially anything from Cuba. I attribute this to culture shock, I guess. But I do remember everything about my growing years in Miami. I had a very normal and average childhood and despite the small challenges my family endured during our first few years here, it was perfect in every way.
It wasn't until my later teen years that I realized something was missing in my life: an identity. I soon became the black sheep and the only one in the family to stray away from conventional and conservative family values. Throughout high school and the first few years of college, I lived in and out of a multitude of phases, trying one lifestyle after another, as if shopping for shoes. Despite my eccentric taste in music and fashion, I still felt I had not seen all there is to see, so I put my free college education, compliments of my high school honor graduate status, on hold to live in Southern California.
With no plans in mind, I followed my instincts and embarked on a journey of rediscovery that commenced in the summer of 1987. I was to spend the next 12 years there and experience more than I had in mind. But, those 12 years resulted in numerous job opportunities, life experiences and travel benefits that took me through 20+ states within the United States. It took 12 years of my life to finally discover "me" and settle into the lifestyle I currently live and enjoy.
I returned to South Florida in 1999 and immediately set out to follow my dreams. Since 1994 I have been working in information technology for a wide array of industries: from banking and retail, to consulting. But prior to my involvement in the I.T. field, I was mesmerized by my love of writing, a gift demonstrated in high school and college. I took my love for writing and applied it to I.T. in the way of end-user documentation, technical writing and training manuals. But something was still missing.
On my spare time the creative side of me gave birth to published works of poetry, newspaper article contributions, screenplays, reality show concepts, web site content, blogging and a recent book publishing. All my writing attempts were highly successful, gaining attention and recognition in the way of awards, publishing and interest from movie studios for one of my screenplays.
Today, I am making my final transition to achieve my ultimate goal: to be a full-time writer. I enjoy I.T., web design and my photography and videography business, but nothing is more fulfilling to me than writing. It is the ultimate medium of self-expression while sharing and contributing my worldly experiences.
